India's Urban Unemployment Rate Declines in Q2 2023

India has witnessed a decrease in the urban unemployment rate, with the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) data reporting a rate of 6.6% during April-June 2023, down from 7.6% during the same period in the previous year.

- Urban Unemployment Trends: The 19th Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) noted that the unemployment rate for individuals aged 15 years and above in urban areas stood at 7.6% in April-June 2022.
- Unemployment Rate Among Females: The data revealed that the unemployment rate among females (aged 15 years and above) in urban areas decreased to 9.1% in April-June 2023, compared to 9.5% in the previous year.
- Unemployment Rate Among Males: The unemployment rate for urban males dropped to 5.9% in April-June 2023, down from 7.1% in the same quarter a year ago.
- Labour Force Participation Rate: The labour force participation rate (LFPR) in Current Weekly Status (CWS) reached a four-quarter high of 48.8% in April-June 2023, up from 47.5% in the same quarter of the previous year.
