India Faces Rising Obesity Crisis

In March 2025, a Lancet study revealed that India has the second-highest number of overweight and obese adults globally after China.

- Among girls, the figures increased from 0.45 crore (1990) to 1.24 crore (2021), estimated to rise to 1.44 crore (2050).
- Health Implications: Obesity contributes to India's growing burden of heart disease, strokes, and diabetes, with early onset cases now seen among adolescents.
