India - Indonesia Maritime and Security Ties

On 26th January 2025, Prime Minister and Indonesian President discussed expanding cooperation in maritime security, defense, and regional stability during Subianto's state visit as the Republic Day Chief Guest.

Key Points

Maritime Dialogue: Agreed on the early establishment of bilateral maritime and cybersecurity dialogues to enhance regional stability.
Defense Cooperation: Welcomed the ratification of the Defence Cooperation Agreement (DCA) and emphasized regular engagements between defense forces, including cadet exchanges and biannual coordinated patrols.
Strategic Partnerships: Reaffirmed the importance of India-Indonesia Security Dialogue, Consular Dialogue, and Policy Planning Dialogue for advancing mutual understanding.
Maritime Security: Emphasized collaborative efforts for safe sea lanes and agreed on deploying an Indonesian liaison officer at the IFC-IOR in Gurugram.
South China Sea: Advocated peace, stability, and freedom of navigation, supporting the early conclusion of a substantive Code of Conduct.
Counter-Terrorism: Condemned terrorism in all forms, committing to enhanced global cooperation against terror financing and online radicalization.
Food Security: Discussed India’s support for Indonesia’s mid-day meal scheme and knowledge-sharing with the Food Corporation of India.
Track 1.5 Dialogue: Welcomed the establishment of think-tank level dialogues to foster bilateral cooperation on key issues.
