2nd India-CARICOM Summit

On 20th November 2024, the 2nd India-CARICOM Summit, held in Georgetown, highlighted India’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

  • India proposed assistance in seven key areas, aligning with the CARICOM acronym, which includes capacity building, agriculture, renewable energy, innovation, culture, ocean economy, and healthcare.
  • A significant announcement was the addition of 1,000 more ITEC slots for CARICOM countries, aimed at enhancing capacity building. India also offered technology solutions for food security, including digital farming techniques and drone usage in agriculture.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged CARICOM nations to collaborate with India on renewable energy and climate change initiatives, including joining global projects like the International Solar Alliance (ISA) and the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI).
  • India’s cultural ties with CARICOM were reinforced with the announcement of cricket training for young women cricketers and plans to organize "Days of Indian Culture" across CARICOM member states.
