Rural Roads for Meghalaya and Nagaland

On 24th October, 2024, the Rural Development Ministry announced the approval of 838.045 km of rural roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY-III) to enhance connectivity in Meghalaya and Nagaland.
Key Points
- Meghalaya: The Ministry sanctioned 88 roads covering 782.155 km and 55 bridges with an investment of Rs. 1,056.82 crore. Previously, 55 roads totaling 443.26 km were approved for Rs. 412.34 crore.
- Nagaland: A new project of 55.89 km of roads was approved with an investment of Rs. 54.75 crore, in addition to 40 roads of 506.69 km approved earlier for Rs. 489.7 crore.
- Development Impact: These projects will improve access to healthcare, education, and markets, enhancing connectivity for remote villages and urban centers.
- Economic Growth: By fostering trade and commerce, the projects are expected to stimulate local economies and create employment opportunities in the northeast.
