CCEA Approves Two Major Railway Projects

On 24th October, 2024, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), approved two key railway infrastructure projects totalling Rs. 6,798 crore.

  • These projects, designed to enhance connectivity and reduce congestion, are expected to be completed in five years.

  • New Line from Errupalem to Namburu: Covering 57 km, this line will connect Amaravati, the proposed capital of Andhra Pradesh, enhancing connectivity for local industries and residents, and improving service efficiency.
  • Doubling of Narkatiaganj-Raxaul-Sitamarhi-Darbhanga and Sitamarhi-Muzaffarpur Sections: Spanning 256 km, this project will ease congestion on one of the busiest routes, strengthen connections to Nepal, northeast India, and border areas, and foster socio-economic development.
  • Coverage and Impact: Both projects span eight districts across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Bihar, increasing the Railway network by 313 km.
  • Freight Capacity Boost: These routes are vital for transporting key commodities, with the new capacity expected to add 31 MTPA in freight.
  • Aligned with PM-Gati Shakti: The projects are part of the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, emphasizing integrated planning for seamless multi-modal connectivity.
