Omar Abdullah Sworn in as J&K CM

On 16th October, 2024, Omar Abdullah was sworn in as the first Chief Minister of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, marking the return of an elected government to the region since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

  • Omar Abdullah took the oath as Chief Minister of J&K at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre, administered by Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha.
  • Five ministers, including National Conference members and one independent MLA, were also sworn in to form the first elected Cabinet in the Union Territory since 2019.
  • None of the Congress members participated in the ceremony, protesting for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir.
  • Omar Abdullah acknowledged the challenges of leading a Union Territory government and expressed hope that statehood would be restored soon.
