On 13th October 2024, more than 1.55 lakh candidates applied for the Prime Minister(PM) Internship Scheme, which will commence on 2nd December, offering financial support to unemployed youth for a year.

- Record Registrations Surpass Target: As of 13th October, 2024, 1,55,109 candidates registered for the internship scheme, surpassing the initial target of 1.25 lakh registrations. The dedicated portal went live on October 12, 2024.
- Eligibility Criteria and Financial Support: The internship is open to candidates aged 21-24 years, providing monthly financial assistance of ₹5,000 for 12 months, along with a one-time grant of Rs. 6,000.
- Diverse Sectors for Internship Opportunities: The portal has facilitated more than 80,000 internship opportunities across 24 sectors, including oil, gas, energy, travel, hospitality, and automotive industries, offering a wide range of exposure to candidates.
- Efficient Registration and Access; With Aadhaar-based registration, the portal ensures efficient access to opportunities, including features like bio-data generation. This streamlines the process for candidates and companies alike.
- Cost: The initial cost of the scheme’s pilot project is estimated at Rs. 800 crore, as announced in the Union Budget 2024 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
