India and UAE Sign MoU for Civil Nuclear Cooperation

On 9th September 2024, India and the UAE signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for civil nuclear cooperation between the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) and the Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC)-led Barakah Nuclear Power Plant.

- Expanding Nuclear Collaboration: This MoU, signed during the visit of Abu Dhabi’s Crown Prince Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is part of the UAE's strategy to boost investments in the nuclear sector.
- Trilateral Energy Cooperation: The agreement follows a 2022 trilateral cooperation between India, UAE, and France, focused on solar and nuclear energy, underscoring the growing partnership in energy sectors.
- Long-term LNG Supply MoU Signed: Alongside the nuclear agreement, an MoU for long-term LNG supply was signed between Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Indian Oil Corporation Limited.
- Investment in Food Parks: The Government of Gujarat and Abu Dhabi Developmental Holding Company PJSC (ADQ) also signed a MoU to develop food parks in India, expanding the I2U2 initiative.
- Strengthening Ties at India-GCC Meeting: The visit coincides with the first India-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Foreign Ministers’ meeting, emphasizing the deepening strategic and economic relationship between India and the Gulf region.
