On 18th August, 2024, Director-General of the Indian Coast Guard, Rakesh Pal, died of a heart attack in Chennai after experiencing chest pain while coordinating a visit by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh.
- Rakesh Pal, the 25th Director-General of the Indian Coast Guard, complained of chest pain and uneasiness at INS Adyar around 2 pm while managing the Defence Minister’s visit to Chennai.
- Pal was in Chennai to attend the inauguration of new Coast Guard facilities, a significant event for the maritime force.
- Rakesh Pal had been appointed as the Director-General of the Indian Coast Guard in July 2023, following a distinguished career that began in 1989.
- An alumnus of the Indian Naval Academy, Pal had led the Coast Guard with dedication and was recognized for his leadership and service to the nation.
