On 19th August, 2024, Prime Minister(PM) honored Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur, the architect of modern Tripura, on his birth anniversary, recognizing his contributions to the state's development.

  • Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Bahadur ruled Tripura from 1923 until his death in 1947, playing a pivotal role in the state’s modernization.
  • Born on August 19, 1908, the Maharaja is remembered for his dedication to the welfare of the poor and marginalized, particularly tribal communities.
  • Prime Minister Modi, in a post on X, paid homage to the Maharaja, acknowledging his enduring legacy and commitment to Tripura’s progress.
  • Chief Minister Manik Saha, speaking at a commemorative event in Agartala, credited Prime Minister Modi for bringing renewed attention and respect to the contributions of Tripura’s Manikya dynasty.
  • The Chief Minister also remarked on the historical unity between tribals and non-tribals during the Maharaja's reign, contrasting it with the divisions that arose post-Partition.
