TRAI Orders Crackdown on Spam Callers

On 13th August, 2024, TRAI directed telecom companies to disconnect all telecom resources of unregistered telemarketers making spam calls and blacklist them for up to two years.
- TRAI has mandated telecom companies to immediately disconnect and blacklist unregistered telemarketers using telecom resources for making spam calls.
- All promotional voice calls from unregistered telemarketers or senders must be halted immediately under TRAI's new directive.
- Unregistered telemarketers found violating regulations and causing consumer complaints will face a disconnection of their telecom resources for up to two years.
- Blacklisted unregistered telemarketers will not receive new telecom resources from any provider during their blacklisting period.
- Information on blacklisted telemarketers must be shared across all telecom operators via the DLT platform within 24 hours of blacklisting.
- TRAI requires telecom companies to migrate unregistered telemarketers to the DLT platform within one month and submit compliance reports within seven days.
