MHA Forms Team to Assess Wayanad Landslide Damage

On 8th August 2024, the Ministry of Home Affairs constituted a nine-member team to evaluate the destruction caused by recent landslides.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has formed a nine-member team to assess the extent of damage caused by the landslides in Wayanad.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed hope that the Prime Minister would approve the Centre’s assistance for the rehabilitation of landslide survivors.
The state government has requested the Union government to declare the Wayanad landslides as a national disaster to facilitate aid and recovery efforts.
A total of 225 bodies and 195 body parts have been recovered, while 131 people remain missing; DNA tests are being conducted to confirm identities.
The state government has identified 91 government quarters for temporary rehabilitation of survivors, with 641 families, totaling 1,942 members, currently in relief camps.
