Maharashtra Cabinet Approves Minority Research Institute

On 7th August, 2024, the Maharashtra cabinet approved the creation of a Minority Research and Training Institute (MRTI) to address the backwardness of minority communities in the state and support their development.
- The MRTI will be established following models similar to TARTI for tribals, BARTI for Scheduled Castes, Sarathi for Marathas, Mahajyoti for OBCs, and Amrut for the general category.
- A new scholarship scheme for foreign education for minority students has been announced starting from the 2024-25 academic year.
- The government has also decided to set up a Minority Commissioner’s Office in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and establish minority cells at the district level.
- The cabinet has approved the inclusion of the Kunjada caste within Muslims in the OBC category, and 11 posts will be created for MRTI with an expenditure of Rs 6.25 crore allocated for staff salaries, office expenses, research, and training.
