National High-Speed Road Corridors

On 2nd August 2024, the Cabinet has greenlit eight major national high-speed road corridor projects valued at Rs 50,655 crore to boost logistics efficiency and connectivity across India.

- Project Details: The approved projects span a total of 936 kilometers, aimed at reducing congestion and enhancing national connectivity.
- Agra-Gwalior Corridor: An 88-kilometer six-lane corridor costing Rs 4,613 crore will cut travel time by 50% and reduce logistics costs by shortening the distance between Agra and Gwalior by 7%.
- Kharagpur-Moregram Corridor: This four-lane corridor, costing Rs 10,247 crore, will significantly reduce travel time for freight vehicles from 9-10 hours to 3-5 hours, transforming the economy of West Bengal and the North-East.
- Tharad-Deesa-Mehsana-Ahmedabad Corridor: Allocated Rs 10,534 crore, this 214-kilometer six-lane corridor will enhance port connectivity, reduce the distance between Tharad and Ahmedabad by 20%, and cut travel time by 60%.
- Ayodhya Ring Road: The 68-kilometer four-lane road, with a budget of Rs 3,935 crore, will improve connectivity between Ayodhya’s tourist spots, airports, and railway stations.
- Pathalgaon-Gumla and Kanpur Ring Road: The 137-kilometer four-lane section of the Raipur-Ranchi Corridor will cost Rs 3,298 crore. Similarly, the 47-kilometer Kanpur Ring Road, with a budget of Rs 3,298 crore, aims to decongest Kanpur’s highways.
- Northern Guwahati Bypass and Nashik-Pune Corridor: The 121-kilometer Northern Guwahati Bypass will receive Rs 5,729 crore, while the 8-lane elevated flyover between Pune and Nashik will be funded with Rs 7,827 crore, improving logistics in these regions.
- Government Investment: Over the past decade, total capital investments in National Highways have surged to Rs 3.1 lakh crore, a six-fold increase from Rs 50,000 crore in 2013-14.
