Government of India had set up the Department of Women and Child Development, in the year 1985 as a part of the Ministry of Human Resource Development to give the much-needed impetus to the holistic development of women and children.
Two Statutory Commissions have been established to safeguard the constitutional and legal rights of women and Children, redress deprivation of their rights and promote gender justice and equality namely: i. National Commission for Women (NCW), ii. National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR)
