The Supreme Court of India had appointed former Allahabad High Court judge Virendra Singh as the new UP Lokayukta in December 2015, but it was recalled later.

  1. The Supreme Court in exercise of its jurisdiction, may pass such decrees and may make such orders as is necessary for doing complete justice in any case or matters pending before it.
  2. Under the UP Lokayukta Act, a committee comprising the CM, High Court Chief Justice and Leader of Opposition in the Assembly must pick the Lokayukta, and a recommendation must then be made to the Governor.
