Potential Decline in Exploitable Fish Biomass
A new report published by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on 10th July, 2024, forecasts a potential decline of 10 to 30 per cent or more in exploitable fish biomass by the end of the century if emissions are not curtailed.

- High-Emissions Scenario: Under a high-emissions scenario projecting a global temperature increase of 3-4°C, exploitable fish biomass is expected to decline by more than 10% by mid-century in many regions, with declines of 30% or greater affecting 48 countries and territories by century-end.
