​India’s First Green Steel Initiative

On 12th July, 2024, a consortium led by the Institute of Minerals and Materials Technology (IMMT) announced plans to pilot India’s first green steel manufacturing initiative, utilizing hundred percent hydrogen-based direct reduction of iron (DRI).

  • The Ministry of Steel will provide partial support for this project.

What is Green Steel?

  • Green steel refers to steel production methods that significantly reduce carbon emissions; or, carbon content compared to conventional methods.
