​Kerala Launches FOSS-Based KITE GNU Linux 22.04 OS for Schools

  • Recently, Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) launched a free and open-source software (FOSS)-based operating system, KITE GNU Linux 22.04, for use in three lakh computers across public schools in the state.
  • The operating system is designed as a complete computing platform suitable for ICT learning in schools, and also for use by students, teachers, and professionals in various sectors.
  • The new OS is built on the Wayland system, replacing the xorg window mechanism currently used in school computers, offering enhanced performance and capabilities.
