Abanindranath Tagore
- Recently, 152nd birth anniversary of Abanindranath Tagore (1871-1951) was celebrated.
- Born in Jorasanko, Calcutta on 7 August 1871, he was a revolutionary artist who played an instrumental role in establishing the Bengal School of Art which aimed at reviving traditional Indian art forms.
- It was Abanindranath who ushered in the modem art movement in Bengal.
- He was a supporter of Swadeshi values in India.
- He first created the ‘Indian Society of Oriental Art’ and later went on to establish the Bengal School of Art.
