A river system is a network of connecting channels through which water of rainfall is collected and carried to the ocean.

A river system may be divided into three parts:

  1. Collection system,
  2. Transport system, and
  3. Depositional or dispersing system.

The erosion capacity of a river depends on:

  1. Discharge,
  2. Velocity,
  3. Gradient slope,
  4. Sediment load, and
  5. Base level.

Drainage System

Drainage system refers to the origin and development of streams through time. While the total area that contributes water to a single drainage system is known as drainage basin.
