​Cabinet Approves Mission Mausam

On 11th September 2024, the Union Cabinet approved the Rs 2,000-crore Mission Mausam, aimed at upgrading India's weather monitoring infrastructure and transitioning from weather forecasting to active weather management by 2026.

  • The National Monsoon Mission, launched in 2012, laid the foundation for improved weather forecasting, but the changing climate demands more precise prediction tools.
  • In line with its aim to make India ‘Weather Ready’ and ‘Climate Smart’, Mission Mausam will upgrade weather forecasting systems, including the addition of 70 doppler radars, 10 wind profilers, and 10 radiometers.
