“Aparajita” Anti-Rape Bill, 2024
- Recently, the West Bengal Legislative Assembly unanimously passed the Aparajita Women and Child (West Bengal Criminal Laws Amendment) Bill, 2024.
- It aims to amend the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita 2023, and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 to impose stricter punishments for rape and child abuse in West Bengal.
- Capital punishment is proposed for those convicted of rape if the victim dies or is left in a vegetative state.
