Srimanta Sankaradeva
Recently, the Assam government decided to create an indigenous-only zone around Batadrava, the birthplace of 15th-16th century saint-reformer Srimanta Sankaradeva who propounded neo-Vaishnavism.
- Srimanta Sankardev was a 15th–16th century Assamese polymath; a saint-scholar, poet, playwright, dancer, actor, musician, artist socio-religious reformer and a figure of importance in the cultural and religious history of Assam.
- He propagated a form of Vaishnavism known as Eka-Sarana-Hari-Nama-Dharma or 'Mahapurusism'.
- He was the creator of the Ankiya naat, a type of one-act play, and the Sattriya dance, which is now a classical dance form in India.
