Food Security in India: The Paradox of Plenty
Recently, India’s Prime Minister dedicated to the nation 35 crop varieties with special traits, developed by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). Developed in 2021, these crop varieties have special traits like climate resilience and higher nutrient-content. These crops will help India address the challenges of food insecurity, malnutrition and climate change.
According to the United Nations’ Committee on World Food Security,food security means that all people, at all times, have physical, social, and economic access to sufficient, safe, and nutritious food that meets their food preferences and dietary needs for an active and healthy life.
