Body Mass Index (BMI) Classification

  • Overweight: BMI 25+ (WHO) | BMI 23-24.9 (India)
  • Obesity: BMI 30+ (WHO) | BMI 25+ (India)
  • Morbid Obesity: BMI 35+

Global Obesity Trends

  • Between 1990 and 2022, childhood obesity (ages 5–19) increased from 2% to 8%, while adult obesity more than doubled from 7% to 16%.

  • 24% of Indian women and 23% of Indian men are overweight or obese.
