At an estimated cost of Rs. 43,000 crores, this project calls for the domestic building of submarines fitted with the most advanced Air Independent Propulsion system.
- The Indian Navy's 30-year plan for building indigenous submarines includes Project 75 (I), which was authorised in 2007.
- Project 75 (I) will be the first submarine built under the strategic partnership model, which was introduced in 2017 to encourage domestic defence production.
- The strategic partnership model enables domestic defence producers to collaborate with top international defence corporations to create cutting-edge military systems and lessen reliance on imports.
