National Security Act
On 21st March, 2023, the Punjab Government invoked the National Security Act (NSA) against a fugitive pro-Khalistani leader.
About NSA
- It was promulgated on September 23, 1980.
- Under the Act, a state or central government is empowered to detain a person if there is reason to believe that he/she may be engaging in an act threatening national security.
- The government may also invoke the NSA to prevent a person from disturbing public order or disrupting supplies and services essential to society.
- The person does not need to be charged during this period of detention.
