Health Ministry adds Six Rare Diseases under NPRD, 2021
Recently, the Union Health Ministry included six rare diseases into various groups of disorders under the National Policy for Rare Diseases (NPRD), 2021.
Description of Six Rare diseases Included
- Laron’s Syndrome is now included under Group One. It isa rare disease in which the body is unable to utilise the growth hormones that results in short stature.
- Wilson’s disease, congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH), and neonatal onset multisystem inflammatory disease (NOMID) have been added to the Group Two. It is a rare disorder in which copper is accumulated in vital organs like liver, brain and others.
