Frequency Modulation (FM)

Frequency modulation (FM) is a type of angle modulation in which the frequency of a sinusoidal carrier wave deviates from a centre frequency by an amount proportional to the instantaneous value of the message signal.

  • In FM, the center frequency is the carrier frequency.
  • Modulation refers to converting the information signal to a suitable form of transmission. In communication system, the message or the information signal is converted to the electronic signal, which is transmitted through the communication channel to the receiver.
