DNA Vaccines
- This kind of vaccine induces an immunological response by transfecting a particular DNA sequence into the infected organism.
- Vaccines typically contain DNA sequences that encode a particular antigen.
- The DNA vaccines are delivered by a plasmid vector into the organism's cell.
- The vector is injected into the cell's nucleus, where it codes for the production of an antigen's protein.
- These alien molecules (proteins) are recognised by normal cells, which triggers an immune response. The majority of DNA vaccines are still in the experimental stage.
- A DNA vaccine for Covid called ZyCoV-D was just given emergency approval by Indian authorities.
