Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR)-Cas 9
A genetic code or sequence known as CRISPR is present in bacteria and was developed as a result of the prior bacteriophages that had infected them.
- By inserting virus DNA into their own bacterial genome, bacteria use CRISPR sequences to remember each distinct virus that strikes them, providing defence against that virus' re-attacks.
CRISPR-associated protein 9 (Cas9)
- It is a bacterial RNA-guided endonuclease that once activated will make special enzymes that seem to have coevolved with CRISPR.
