The food processing sector plays a crucial role in enhancing agricultural income and generating employment opportunities beyond the farm. It contributes to the reduction of post-harvest losses in agriculture and allied sectors by encouraging both on-farm and off-farm investments in preservation and processing infrastructure.

The key sub-segments of the Food Processing industry in India are Fruits & Vegetables, Poultry & Meat processing, Fisheries, Food retail, dairy industry, etc.

In line with this, the Ministry of Food Processing Industries has implemented various initiatives to promote the growth of the food processing sector in the nation.
