- M.K. Prasad, one of the leading environmentalist and 'Save Silent Valley' campaigners has passed away on 17 January 2022.
- The Silent Valley Hydro-electric project that marked the beginning of the environmental movement in Kerala was abandoned and declared as a national park in 1984.
