​Aggregate Measurement of Support

On 8th May, 2024, the United States (US) and Australia accused India of providing excessive subsidies to its sugarcane farmers, breaching global trade norms.

  • It was alleged that between 2018-19 and 2021-22, India's subsidies ranged from 91-100 per cent, far surpassing the permissible 10 per cent limit set for developing countries under WTO regulations.
  • These subsidies, categorized as Aggregate Measurement of Support (AMS), have drawn scrutiny from the international community.
