Grievance Appellate Committee
On 2nd June, 2022, the Centre proposed to set up a grievance appellate committee to look into appeals filed by individuals against the decisions of grievance officers of social media platforms.
The idea to constitute appellate committees has been proposed as an amendment to the controversial IT Rules, 2021.
Rationale behind the Proposal
- The proposal comes on the back of multiple stand-offs between the government and the social media platforms over content moderation and takedown.
