Parliamentary Committee to Examine the Issue of Lateral Entry
On 24th November, 2024, the Lok Sabha Secretariat announced that the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law, and Justice will review the subject in 2024-25.
- A parliamentary committee will examine the issue of lateral entry into government departments, a practice that stirred political controversy earlier this year over the absence of reservations for these roles.
- In August, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) advertised 45 contractual positions—10 for joint secretaries and 35 for directors and deputy secretaries—under the lateral entry scheme.
