Shockwave-based Syringe for Needle-Free, Painless Drug Delivery
- Researchers at IIT Bombay have developed a shockwave-based syringe that delivers medication without using traditional needles, providing a painless and less traumatic alternative for patients.
- The device uses high-energy shockwaves to create a microjet of liquid drugs, traveling at almost twice the speed of a commercial airplane, allowing for rapid and gentle skin penetration.
- Laboratory tests on rats have shown that the shock syringe is effective in delivering anesthetics, antifungal drugs, and insulin, sometimes outperforming traditional needles.
