Building a Skilled Workforce in Rural India
- According to estimates for 2022-23, India's workforce was approximately 565 million.
- The labor force participation rate in rural areas increased from 50.7% in 2017-18 to 63.7% in 2023-24, while in urban areas, it rose from 47.6% to 52.0%.
- Since its inception in 2015, the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) has trained 14.2 million people.
- PMKVY has also played a significant role in introducing 119 skill development courses across 8 key sectors that align with the demands of changing industries.
- Under PMKVY 4.0, as of June 30, 2024, 12,257 training centers have been registered across the country, with 1,445 located in tribal areas.
