The Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Act, 2023
On 20th December, 2023, the President granted assent to the Government of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2023.
- It amends the Government of Union Territories Act, 1963.The Act provides for establishing Legislative Assemblies and constitution of Councils of Ministers for certain Union Territories.
Salient Features
Reservation for Women (New Section 3A)
- The Act reserves one-third of all elected seats in the Puducherry Legislative Assembly for women.
- This will also apply to the seats reserved for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in the Assembly.
