Nano-Materials: Applications

Classification of Nano-Materials

(A) Classification based on Structural Dimensionality

(i) Zero Dimensional Nanomaterials

  • Materials with all dimensions at nanoscale (1 to 100 nm)
  • Often spherical, can include cubes and polygonal shapes within nano-dimensions

(ii) One Dimensional Nanomaterials

  • Structures with two dimensions at the nanoscale and one beyond (>100 nm)
  • One dimension extends beyond the nanoscale

(iii) Two Dimensional Nanomaterials

  • Materials with one dimension at nanoscale, two dimensions not confined to nanoscale
  • Exhibit plate like shapes

(iv) Three Dimensional Nanomaterials

  • Materials with three arbitrary dimensions beyond nanoscale
  • Possess nanocrystalline structure or peculiarities at nanoscale

(B) Classification based on Chemical Composition

(i) Organic Nanomaterials

  • Carbon-based materials with covalent interactions suitable for biomedical use
  • Used in regenerative dentistry, wound ....
