Nano-Materials: Applications
Classification of Nano-Materials
(A) Classification based on Structural Dimensionality
(i) Zero Dimensional Nanomaterials
- Materials with all dimensions at nanoscale (1 to 100 nm)
- Often spherical, can include cubes and polygonal shapes within nano-dimensions
(ii) One Dimensional Nanomaterials
- Structures with two dimensions at the nanoscale and one beyond (>100 nm)
- One dimension extends beyond the nanoscale
(iii) Two Dimensional Nanomaterials
- Materials with one dimension at nanoscale, two dimensions not confined to nanoscale
- Exhibit plate like shapes
(iv) Three Dimensional Nanomaterials
- Materials with three arbitrary dimensions beyond nanoscale
- Possess nanocrystalline structure or peculiarities at nanoscale
(B) Classification based on Chemical Composition
(i) Organic Nanomaterials
- Carbon-based materials with covalent interactions suitable for biomedical use
- Used in regenerative dentistry, wound ....
