​Supply of Free Fortified Rice Extended

On 9th October 2024, the Union Cabinet approved the extension of the universal supply of fortified rice in all central government food schemes until December 2028, aiming to address issues of anaemia and micronutrient deficiencies in India.

  • The primary aim of this initiative is to combat anaemia and micronutrient deficiencies prevalent among women and children in India.

(Note: Currently, one in two women and one in three children in India are affected by anaemia and stunting, necessitating effective nutritional interventions).
