Rationale/Causes
- Rapid Deforestation: It causes rainfall to decrease and also causes the check dams built by these trees, which aid in replenishing groundwater, to diminish.
- Growing Urbanization: As cities and industries become more developed, there is a greater demand for water, which causes groundwater levels to drop. water is used opulently in urban areas. While other cities only receive 40 to 50 litres per capita per day (LPCD), megacities like Delhi and Mumbai receive more than the standard municipal water norm of 150 LPCD.
