Private Players’ Participation in Space
Rationale/Causes
- Poor Private Ecosystem: Indian industry cannot compete since, up until now, it has mostly served as a provider of parts and subsystems. The means and technology required to carry out autonomous space initiatives of the kind that US firms like SpaceX have been doing or to offer space-based services are not available to Indian enterprises.
- Growing Demand: ISRO is unable to meet the rising demand for space-based services and applications, even within India. Today, satellite data, images, and space technology are required in a wide range of industries, including meteorology, agriculture, transportation, and urban development.
