About Pattachitra Painting

Origin

  • Pattachitra is a unique ancient traditional, cloth-based scroll painting based in the eastern Indian states of Odisha, West Bengal and parts of Bangladesh.
  • It is believed to have originated as early as the 12th century.
  • Paintings are made fully in the traditional way by Chitrakaras, i.e. Odia Painters.
