Attukal Pongala

On 25th February, 2024, tens of thousands of women gathered in Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) to partake in a sacred ritual known as ‘Attukal Pongala.’

About the Festival

  • It is the ten-day annual Malayalam festival and especially celebrated in Attukal Bhagavathy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram.
  • It is dubbed as the ‘Women’s Sabarimala’, symbolising the strength and power of women.
  • In 2009, the ritual had made it to the Guinness Book of World Records for being the largest religious gathering of women on a single day when over 2.5 million people took part in it.
