Evolution of Aluminium Industry

  • When the factory of the Aluminium Corporation of India was put into operation, India's production of aluminium officially began. The facility, which was built with the financial and technical assistance of Alcan, Canada, had a production capacity of 2,500 tonnes annually.
  • In 1959, the Hindustan Aluminium Company (HINDALCO) was founded in Uttar Pradesh. It was able to produce 20,000 tonnes annually.
  • A 10,000-ton-per-year public sector company called MALCO was put into operation in 1965.
  • The National Aluminium Corporation (NALCO) was given the go-ahead to start producing aluminium in 1987. It could produce 0.218 million tonnes per year.
