West Bengal passes Resolution to revive Legislative Council
On 6th July, 2021, West Bengal government passed a resolution to set up Legislative Council with a two-thirds majority.
The West Bengal Legislative Council was set up in 1952 and abolished in 1969 by a coalition government of Left parties.
About State Legislative Council (Vidhan Parishad)
- Indian legislation follows a bicameral system at both the Centre and state level.
- At the State level, the equivalent of the Lok Sabha is the Vidhan Sabha (Legislative Assembly), and that of the Rajya Sabha is the Vidhan Parishad (Legislative Council).
