Recently, India’s Nuclear doctrine was once again under debate over Defence Minister’s remark in Pokhran that India’s adherence to the principle of ‘no first use’ of nuclear weapons is not sacrosanct and its future course would depend on the exigencies of the time.

Post the 1999, Pokhran Nuclear Tests, India faced severe backlash from international community. In the wake of the impending scenario it came out with nuclear doctrine in 1999 which was formally adopted on 4th January 2003.
